Steelers land S Burnett with 3-year deal

PITTSBURGH (AP) The Pittsburgh Steelers value versatility in their defensive backs. Morgan Burnett should fit right in.

The two-time defending AFC North champions signed the free agent safety to a three-year deal on Tuesday, part of an overhaul in the secondary that began last week when the team cut ties with veterans Mike Mitchell, Robert Golden and William Gay.

The 29-year-old Burnett has played all eight seasons of his NFL career in Green Bay, collecting 683 tackles, 44 passes defensed, nine interceptions and 10 fumble recoveries. He started 102 games for the Packers and won a Super Bowl ring in 2011, when Green Bay beat Pittsburgh.


Jaguars cut WR Hurns, longtime TE Lewis

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) The Jacksonville Jaguars unceremoniously dumped the longest-tenured player on their roster Tuesday, and he wasn't happy about it.

The Jaguars released veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis after 12 seasons to save $3.5 million in salary-cap space. The move came the same day Jacksonville parted ways with receiver Allen Hurns to save $7 million.


Spring football league to launch in 2019

Pro football - actual games - won't disappear from TV screens, mobile devices and the American consciousness once the Super Bowl ends next February.

The Alliance of American Football will kick off the following Sunday. On network television (CBS) as well as through a multitude of free digital platforms.


Colts sign former Redskins WR Grant

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) The Indianapolis Colts have signed free agent receiver Ryan Grant.

Grant spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Washington Redskins. In 64 career games, he made 15 starts, caught 84 passes for 985 yards with six touchdowns.


Bills re-sign LB Humber to 1-year deal

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) The Buffalo Bills have agreed to re-sign linebacker Ramon Humber to a one-year contract.

Humber returns for a third season in Buffalo after starting a career-high nine games last year. He has nine seasons of NFL experience and signed with Buffalo in 2016 to serve in mostly a special teams role.


Cowboys acquire FB Olawale from Raiders

FRISCO, Texas (AP) The Oakland Raiders have traded fullback Jamize Olawale to the Dallas Cowboys in a deal that also includes a swap of picks in the upcoming NFL draft.

Dallas sent Oakland one of its two fifth-round picks (No. 173 overall) in exchange for a sixth-round pick (No. 192 overall). The Cowboys now have three picks in the sixth round.


49ers sign G Cooper to 1-year contract

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) The San Francisco 49ers signed free agent guard Jonathan Cooper to a one-year deal.

The deal announced Tuesday provides another option for San Francisco on the interior of the offensive line.


Chiefs reshape despite recent success

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) They have a new quarterback and a new middle linebacker. They've released veterans, traded away one of the top cornerbacks in the league, signed wisely in free agency and loaded up on draft picks.

Sounds like a losing franchise trying to turn things around.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Wide receiver Jarius Wright says he's eager to play again for Carolina offensive coordinator Norv Turner - regardless of where he lines up.

Wright signed his three-year contract with the Panthers on Tuesday, one day after agreeing to terms .
